• Do not spam. This means posting messages advertising yourself or products or services. If you want to promote a conference or similar, please contact us before posting.
• Do not use racist, sexist, homophobic, heterosexist or any other discriminatory language (if you're illustrating a story or case, you may need to include some terms people may find offensive, in such case make it clear what you're doing).
• Do not flame people (i.e. send abusive replies to people whose viewpoints or methodological stance you do not like). If you feel someone has posted something offensive, upsetting, unethical, or incorrect, then let us know and we'll deal with it.
• Do not post any material which could be considered illegal, under copyright restrictions, or libellous in the UK and your country of habitation.
• We reserve the right to edit or remove posts - we hope this won't happen very often.
• Any breach of the above terms may result in your posts being deleted. Repeat offenders may be blocked from using the forum.

GUIDELINES

• This is a site for people of all levels of expertise to talk about research. Please respect that some people may not be as experienced as you, and offer them supposrt where you can. Please do not criticise others for asking questions you feel are basic - they may be issues others want to cover. Some of the people using this site may not be from an academic background, or may be writing in English as a second language. Please be sensitive to this.
• Read The Research Companion before you post. You're welcome to ask questions about the book or build upon issues within it, but questions that ask for information which the book already covers will not be answered here.
• Remember, this is a forum about research, but not a source of research data for you. If you wish to advertise a research project here, or want to recruit people for your research through this site, please contact us first. We'll need to see a copy of your research outline, and ethics approval details before we can post anything.
• Feel free to ask questions of us, and other site users, but be patient - this isn't a chat room. Sometimes you will have to wait several days for a reply.
• It's fine to use a different name from your own if you want to protect your identity. Where possible we'd like people to feel comfortable enough to use their own name, but we understand this is a public forum and you may not always wish to be identified (particularly if you wish to talk about bullying or similar).
• We would like this site to be as equal a playing field as possible. Therefore whether you're a professor or a newbie researcher, it's fine for you to ask questions and offer advice - don't be shy!
